From Kibble to Raw: An Atlanta Dog Parent’s Guide

If you’ve ever wondered whether a raw diet is right for your dog, this is your chance to get real answers, not internet rumors.

On Sunday, September 13th from 6 to 7 pm, we’re hosting a raw feeding event in partnership with Splootsville Pet Boutique, presented by Rebel Raw, a local Atlanta company. This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s a chance to learn what transitioning your dog to raw food actually looks like, ask your questions out loud, and see and smell the food for yourself before you decide anything.

What Raw Feeding Actually Means

Raw feeding is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of kibble or canned food that’s been cooked and processed, your dog eats raw muscle meat, bone, organ meat, and sometimes fruits or vegetables, put together to match what a dog’s body is built to digest.

Dogs have a shorter digestive tract and a more acidic stomach than humans. That’s part of why they can process raw meat and bone safely in a way we can’t. The idea behind raw feeding isn’t new. It’s closer to how dogs ate before commercial pet food existed. What’s changed is that companies like Rebel Raw have made it easier and safer to do at home, with properly balanced, ready to feed portions instead of guesswork in your own kitchen.

Why Dog Parents Consider the Switch

Most people who look into raw feeding are chasing one of a few things. A shinier coat. Better digestion. More stable energy. Smaller, less smelly stool. Fewer skin issues. Some dogs simply do better on it, the same way some people feel better eating one way over another.

That said, raw feeding isn’t automatically right for every dog, and it isn’t something to jump into without understanding it first. That’s exactly why we’re doing this event instead of just posting about it online.

Common Questions We Hear

“Isn’t raw meat dangerous for my dog?” This is the question we hear most, and it’s a fair one. Dogs are built to handle bacteria that would make us sick. Their stomach acid is significantly stronger than ours, and food moves through them much faster. The bigger safety questions are usually about handling and storage in your own kitchen, which is exactly the kind of thing you’ll learn at the event.

“Will my dog get enough nutrients?” A raw diet that isn’t properly balanced can absolutely leave gaps. This is where working with a company like Rebel Raw matters. Their meals are formulated, not just thrown together, which takes the guesswork off your plate.

“Is it messy or complicated?” It can be, if you’re doing it entirely from scratch. Pre-portioned raw options make it far more manageable for a busy schedule, which is part of why we wanted to bring this conversation to our Atlanta dog parents directly.

“How do I even start transitioning my dog?” Slowly, and with a plan. A sudden switch can upset your dog’s stomach. A gradual transition, done the right way, is much easier on their digestive system. This is one of the main things we’ll walk through together on September 13th.

What to Expect at the Event

Rebel Raw will be on site with free samples, so your dog can try raw food and you can watch how they respond firsthand. You’ll be able to ask your specific questions directly to people who work with raw feeding every day, not search results. We’ll talk through what a safe transition looks like, what changes you might notice in your dog along the way, and how to know if raw feeding is a good fit for your dog specifically.

Why This Matters to Us

At Praline’s Backyard, we care about more than just the time we spend with your dog during a visit. We care about your dog’s whole life, and that includes what’s in their bowl. A dog who’s well fed is a dog who’s more settled, more comfortable, and better able to enjoy everything else we build into their routine, from private walks with tailored enrichment to dog taxi rides to the vet or groomer.

Nutrition and enrichment work together. A dog whose body is getting what it needs is a dog whose mind is more available for the sniffing, exploring, and problem solving that keep them calm and confident between visits.

Come with your questions. Bring your skepticism, too, if you have it. We’d rather you leave with real answers than a sales pitch. Whether you’re raw curious or ready to make the switch, we hope to see you and your dog there.
